it went very smoothly and all staff were very professional. from the moment I made an inquiry with Chess, communication was exceptional with all queries answered immediately. The timing of the move was excellent, happening within a week of all the relevant paperwork being completed. the packer did an excellent job and I feel confident that all items will arrive intact. since the items were removed I have received notification of ETA in the UK. I am very happy with all aspects of the move.

Stressful and poorly handled We wanted to send somethings to Kenya. We did not have the experience nor the expertise and were a bit weary of dealing with small companies as we did not know them, We chose to go with Chess even though other comampanies quotes were much lower. My husband and I are not mathematically oriented so we asked Chess to come and assess our goods and let us know what size of container we would need. The gentleman who came assessed what we had and recommended 20 ft if we were sending a car and the other goods or 40 ft if were sending two cars. He added that even then a 40 ft would still be too large. When he sent us options we chose the 20 ft as were had decided to send ony 1 car and going by his ear;ier estimation and advice we opted for the smaller container. Whene the container arrived with car already packed, there was no room left inside except the beda m mattresses that were packed on top of the car. Three quaters of our things could not fit. When we brought this up with the agent, he said it was not his responsibility to advice nor make decision for us, because they are not paid to advice. Eventually because were desperate, Chess cahrged another $4000 on top of $7000 that we had paid, to pack our remaining things and ship them to on different container. We were left massively in debt for something that shouls have caused half that ammount. The irony is when we comaplined one of the managers told us to talk to their lawyer. We dont have the money to engage a lawyer, so we did not. Everyone at Chess became so hostile once this broke down, we could not reach a solution with any of them so opted to go with the expensive side. I will never use them nor refer anyone. I will be goingto the Ombudsman with this and may be current affairs

Chess Moving - NSW They were really good initially - contacting me and providing a quote in good time. They were never pushy and gave me all the timeframes I needed for me to arrange my own logistics. It went downhill was as soon as I paid them I had to chase them for all the details incl. when they were going to pick up my items. I kept ringing / emailing to speak to my customer rep but he was conveniently always out of the office or in meetings - it’s as if they didn’t care. They assured me the boxes would be in London by end of March if I sent them in mid Jan. It’s the end of May and I’ve just received them over 2 months late. The UK mover Britannia have been more then helpful in this whole process while Chess movers couldn’t give a fuck about their customers & always unavailable. Chess Moving - NSW Choose chess as they told us they had shipments leaving Sydney every 2 weeks and assured us our container would be on the next available ship , they collected 28th March but held everything in storage for 6 weeks it finally left Sydney 28TH April so from pick up to delivery (still waiting) will be 16 weeks not the promised 10-12 maximum.

Chess Moving - NSW The move with Chess Moving NSW was well organized. Cameron Van Cuylenberg was the point of contact by email and provided a cost-effective quote and trustworthy correspondence. The only minor issue was that I don't recall receiving an final invoice after I paid insurance. That is probably insignificant given that all the items arrived in the same condition that it was packed. The two packers/removalists arrived early on the scheduled day. They were efficient, swift, courteous and worked well in a team. I think it helped that I had most of my items organized and mostly in unsealed boxes by the time of their arrival. Alison Groat was the name of the email contact at the destination country. She sent me the official Customs forms prior to my departure, so all I had to do was to fill out as much as I could and send a scanned copy of the packing list. The shipment arrived about 5 weeks after the pickup date, which met my expectation.
